Optimism Poll [Feb. 4th, 2004|11:37 pm]

It's a few days late, but it's finally arrived - the voting for the tunes of January's mood, optimism!

Community members vote, and each community member has 6 votes each, specifically, 3 votes per section (since it had to broken up into two).
You are allowed to vote for your own selections, so long as that is not the sole reason you vote for them.
Voting closes mid-month, which gives ample time to select your tunes (by reading the lyrics or by listening to the tunes, your choice)
Songs are listed alphabetically - there is no favouritism here.
Remember kids, this community is all about discovering new tunes.

( You may notice that the first song has a URL - this is because the person who submitted the song was unsure of the artist. I discovered many artists had performed the tune, but couldn't confirm one artist. I did discover that MBF had included it on a charity CD, and hell, it doesn't hurt to throw a community-minded link in there. )

Enter the BoothCollapse )

If there's a problem with the poll, let me know. This is my first community poll, so patience is a virtue.

Because the sun is fun! [Jan. 6th, 2004|07:49 pm]

I think what made this hard was that I don't do optimistic much in my daily life, so I didn't know what counted as optimistic in music. Either way, this is my submission.

"The Sun Will Come Out Tomorrow" - Annie

"Don't Worry, Be Happy" - Bobby McFerrin

"Here Comes The Sun" - The Beatles

I'm really keen on the third - it's the first i thouht of. It's what i always play whenever I'm feeling optimistic. :D

Accentuate the Positive (it's on the MBF ad. And in Blast from the Past)
I think it's by the Neutrinos on the Blast from the past soundtrack.

Optimism [Jan. 6th, 2004|12:00 am]

Three offbeat picks for the mood optimism:

1) Always Look On The Bright Side Of Life, Eric Idle, from the movie Life of Brian. It's even better than banjo music for putting a smile on your face. I dare you to sing along with this tune and try not to smile.

2) It's The End Of The World As We Know It (And I Feel Fine) , REM from Eponymous. At first glance you might think this song is a downer. One could say this song is about our anesthetization to the apocalyptic realities of our modern age. However, I prefer to think of this piece as an acknowledgment of these issues, and the refusal of the paralysis of terror. Sure life doesn't match our hopes, but let's just move on.

3) Shine On You Crazy Diamond (Parts 1-5) , Pink Floyd, from Wish You Were Here. Ok, so this song is partially about ruination and premature rot. But within it is the hope for a rebirth, like the phoenix, to shine again, if only in memory. Anyway I always feel upbeat after listening to it.

Optimistic [Jan. 6th, 2004|12:17 pm]

1. Be Optimistic - Shirley Temple
It's called "Be Optimistic". And it's by Shirley Temple. You can't get much more peppy than that.

2. Soak Up the Sun - Sheryl Crow
Ultimate feel-good song. Heavy on the happy-with-what-I've-got.

3. Happiness Hotel - The Muppets
I was trying to decide between two different songs, and then this one popped up on my playlist. It always make me smile.

[music |The Mighty Mighty Bosstones]

Well, since somebody already took U2 - Beautiful Day, I'll have to start off with U2 - Elevation, which just makes me bop and smile.

Next is The Corrs - No More Cry. Which yes, has been known to make me cry, but the sense of hope, of confidence and optimism in the future is great.

Last is Dido - Thank you, which is also so full of hope for me, belief that a bad day can end well, that I had to include it here 8^)

my dreams could be tomorrow.... [Jan. 5th, 2004|04:18 pm]

[music |Book of Days - Enya]

mmm. i'll echo another post when i say i'm not sure my song choices fit... but being that my music collection isn't filled with overly happy or optimistic songs or lyrics, these are always the songs that i listen to ... when i want to cheer up or feel lighter. the ones i use to be hopeful. and really, hopeful is the same as optimistic, ne?

1. This Year - Chantal Kreviazuk
explination: one of the most upbeat songs i've ever heard, also fitting into the fact that we just entered into a new year. who could feel anything but optimistic when hearing it?

2. Beautiful Day - U2
explination: for a long time i didn't care for this song. then someone made a fan music video with it and i've loved it ever since. it's the perfect song for blaring out your car windows while smiling back at the sunshine. it always makes me feel better when i hear it.

3. Book of Days - Enya
explination: i'll admit, enya is not really known for being an up-beat singer. but this song has such an air of hopeful optimisim. that even if you fall or falter, you can always get back up again and continue - your dreams could be just around the corner. it was the song i constantly played after my last relationship ended and always helped to keep my head up high.
